Where are you from, and how did you first get into rodeo?

I grew up on a ranch in New Mexico near the small town of Corona. My family has always had horses and cattle so I grew up horseback and always working. Both my parents enjoyed rodeo, my mom ran barrels and my dad roped and steer wrestled. They were the main reason for me starting.

What events do you compete in, and what are your biggest accomplishments so far?

The events I compete in are the steer wrestling and team roping where I heel.

What’s been the hardest challenge in your rodeo journey, and how did you push through it?

In December of 2024 I broke two vertebrae my back in a horse wreck. After having successful first half of the year at the college rodeos. To keep pushing through the struggles of starting over I had to remind myself everything happens for a reason and that these small setbacks would only make me stronger in the end.

Who or what inspires you the most when you compete?

My parents inspire me the most, they are the most supportive people in my life they would do anything for me and my sister to help us achieve our dreams. Regardless of what it is going to cost them.

Outside the arena, what do you like to do—hobbies, family, or anything people might not know?

Outside of rodeo I enjoy hunting but for the most part I still just like riding horses. Whether it be practicing or helping my family on our ranch.

What does being a sponsored athlete with Paniolo Bucking Company mean to you?

It helps support the people who are investing and ultimately betting on me to perform good and represent them well. Supporting them through merchandise allows me more opportunities.

What’s your ultimate goal in rodeo?

My ultimate goal in rodeo is to win the world in the steer wrestling. I want to be remembered as one of the best. But I also want to be able to help others that have the same goals as me and help them throughout their journey as many have helped me.

Where are you from, and how did you first get into rodeo?

I’m from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. From a young age, I was always involved in helping my family and friends on their ranches. Though I didn’t have a ranch of my own, I spent countless hours working on theirs—branding cattle and watching them train. I started out double mugging, but quickly realized that wasn’t my path. Then I tried steer wrestling, and it just clicked. I entered my first rodeo at 14, and soon after, began competing in high school rodeo. Eventually, I qualified for High school nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska.

What events do you compete in, and what are your biggest accomplishments so far?

I compete in steer wrestling and team roping. The accomplishment i’m most proud of is winning the steer wrestling title at the 2025 Collegiate National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.

What’s been the hardest challenge in your rodeo journey, and how did you push through it?

The biggest challenge in my rodeo journey has been growing up in the city... on an island 2,400 miles away from the heart of rodeo country. Most kids who got their start in rodeo were raised on ranches and surrounded by horses, cattle and the rodeo lifestyle. I didn’t have access to horses, cattle, or a practice facility of my own. I often felt like I was starting from behind, constantly having to work twice as hard just to keep up. But that challenge lit a fire in me. I stayed committed, found ways to train wherever I could, and never let the lack of resources stop me from chasing my goals.

Who or what inspires you the most when you compete?

My biggest inspiration is my family back in Hawaii. They made countless sacrifices so I could come to the mainland, pursue my education, and rodeo for Sul Ross. I’m also deeply grateful to Lazy L Ranch—they gave me my start in rodeo and took the time to show me the ropes. Both have played a huge role in shaping who I am today, in and out of the arena.

Outside the arena, what do you like to do—hobbies, family, or anything people might not know?

Outside the arena, I focus on improving my overall health and well-being. I spend time working out, cooking nutritious meals, and reading my Bible to strengthen my relationship with God. These routines keep me grounded and balanced, both physically and spiritually.

What’s your ultimate goal in rodeo?

My ultimate goal in rodeo is the same as every cowboy chasing the dream—making it to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Vegas. It’s the pinnacle of the sport, and every ride, every run, every long day is about getting one step closer to that arena in Vegas.

 

Meet Kaipo Stevens Soledade

Kaipo Stevens Soledade is a professional bullfighter from Maui, Hawaii, now based in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma. With five years of professional experience, Kaipo has carved out his own path in the rodeo world, stepping away from his family’s legacy in professional surfing. His dedication and talent have earned him two appearances at the Bullfighters Only World Finals in Las Vegas, in 2022 and 2024. Kaipo obtained his PRCA card in 2023 being the second person out of Hawaii to obtain there prca bullfighter card. He has also just started his career in the PBR fighting a few touring pro events in 2026. In 2022, he captured national attention by winning the second round at the Bullfighters Only world finals and receiving the prestigious Skipper Voss Rookie of the Year award.
